Acne scars can be treated by laser treatment, skin surgery, and skin grafting and injecting keloids.
Laser treatment and skin surgery are used for acne scar treatment. For recontouring the scar tissue and reducing the redness of skin laser of various wavelength and intensity may be used. The type of the laser used depends on the ultimate goal of the laser treatment. Carbon dioxide laser remove the tissue. It is very powerful instrument. Most of the cases, a single treatment procedure is followed to get the permanent result. Skin is absorbed by the powerful bursts or energy from the laser. As a result there is redness seen on the skin for several months.
Skin surgery is also an effective treatment. In this procedure scars is removed to the layer of subcutaneous fat. The hole is repaired with small skin graft.
Skin grafting is another treatment process of acne scars. When dermabrasion unroofs massive and extensive tunnels (also called sinus tracts) caused by inflammatory reaction to sebum and bacteria in sebaceous follicles it is necessary to follow the treatment process of skin grafting. It is used to close the defect of the unroofed sinus tracts.
Sometimes keloids are used for surgical removal of scars. There is a tendency of the formation of keloids in response of skin surgery. It is treated by injecting steroid drugs into the skin around the keloids. In some cases topical retinoic acid may be applied directly.
It is known that acne scars are caused due to body’s inflammatory response. So, for the prevention of acne it is necessary to treat acne as soon as possible under specialized dermatologists. There are a number of effective treatments for acne scars. These treatments are done according to the intensity of acne scars and there effectiveness in the acne scar. In this case some factor like the patients willingness to treatment is also important.
